I would call myself a “reluctant traveler.” When I was younger, I only traveled to see my grandparents in Texas or Florida, not fully grasping all of the places I could see. As a tween, I was fine limiting my adventures to the different world within Fortnite…and when I begrudgingly went on a trip down the California coast, I was hooked. I couldn’t believe how different the West Coast was, and the feeling that is hard to explain when you are traveling- of freedom, growth and exploration all in one.

Now, I have been very lucky to be able to travel to many different countries, including Iceland, England, The Netherlands, France, Ireland, Denmark, Spain and Costa Rica. On each trip, in vastly different ways, I have been able to immerse myself in cultures, interact with the experiences around me, and learn about different people and the way they live. When you are LIVING the experience, and it is tangible, it helps you understand more than just looking at a textbook.

I know I am very fortunate to have these experiences. And my family prioritizes travel over other material things, as these are priceless. Travel has strengthened our bonds, given me independence, navigated challenges and has created shared experiences we will never forget.

Recognizing that not everyone is as lucky as I am, I would like to make the opportunity to travel possible for as many students as I can.
